The recommended photo resolution is 300dpi.

We recommend the use of JPG/JPEG files for optimum results.

The blue line represents the edge of the printed page whereas the red line is a safety margin within which you should try to keep all text and important parts of the image. If you would like the image to be printed to the edge of the page, please make sure it is extended right to the blue line.

This is possible but the chances of a software conflict may occur. To do so, download and install Photobook Designer on the 2nd computer and create a project file with the same name and book type. Save the project and then copy a folder called Photobook Designer Projects from the first computer and overwrite this folder on the new computer. Then, copy the folder of images to the new computer. When you open the the new project file, the photobook software will ask you to link the images to the software again as the location of the image files has changed.

This usually happens with images imported into iPhoto or similiar programs which will display the image as auto rotated. The original image file will need to be rotated correctly prior to importing into Photobook Designer.

The best way is to use a Spyder monitor calibration device or something similiar. This could be costly and there are a number of alternatives available. There are many web based applications which perform basic monitor checks and adjustments. Typically, using a sRGB colour profile and setting the gamma to 1.8 would provide a rough estimate of the calibration.

Most books are completed within 4-7 business days and shipping is approximately 1-4 business days depending on your location.

Some backgrounds and masks from earlier versions may have been removed in the updated version. If this occurs, please contact Customer Service and we will do our best to locate the missing item for you.

It's possible to create a set of Proof Files which are small sized JPG files of each page. These can be compressed into one file and emailed to family and friends for their viewing. If you have Adobe Acrobat, these files can also be combined into a PDF file.

Before getting down to designing your book, it really helps to make sure you’ve got what you need in place. This makes your photobooking experience a much more fun and interesting experience. Tick these off before you start designing:

  • Download and install the latest version of Photobook Designer software.
  • Decide on your book style and size.
  • Put all the photos you want to use in a single folder (preferably on your Desktop) for easy reference.
  • Calibrate your monitor (European ISO Fogra 39 or Fogra 27).

Less is more! The rule of thumb when designing your photo book is to keep simple. That way, the focus is always on your photos and your special moments that takes centre stage. Here are some things to keep in mind:

  • instead of complicated or textured backgrounds, consider a simple, white background. This allow your pictures to stand out.
  • You can experiment with different colours as well. Stick with the basic colour theory of complimentary and tertiary colours, to bring out the best for your images.
  • Fullpage image option is available via the Fit to Page
  • Think of how to arrange your photos so that they tell a story. Try different sequences to see how one image influences another.
  • Solid colour and custom colour backgrounds can be accessed by clicking on the fifth icon at the top right and patterned backgrounds are located in the Backgrounds tab.
  • Still want more background options? Download our Ready Books for even more creative options.

These simple tips help make it easier to search the picture that you want. Remember to:

  • Name your image files chronologically, i.e. Photo_0001, Photo_0002, etc.
  • When importing images from your hard disk, we suggest you right-click on its thumbnail in the Pictures List, or right-click on the picture on the page. Select the Show in Finder or Show in Windows Explorer           option.

Do:

  • Use pictures that are at least 300 dpi (dots per inch) to ensure your photos come out clear.
  • We suggest that you save all your image files in JPEG format.
  • Always create a proof and get help from a family member or friend to look through book for things that may have been overlooked. Better to be safe than sorry!
  • Use a word processor for your text so you can just cut and paste onto your book design.
  • Play with different size and colours for your font for an enhanced effect. Ensure that it’s aligned to the margin and spaced accordingly.
  • Don't

  • We strongly suggest against putting any images and/ or text close to the red line or in the centre of your book.
  • Avoid putting important objects (faces, text box, etc) along the centre of the spread (the shaded area). As our books are side stitched for extra strength, objects in the centre may be curved or hidden from view.
